DAY 3- MUSEUMS GALORE.

WEDNESDAY 10TH FEBRUARY 2010.

On Day 3 me and Jo decided that we were DEFINITELY not going to miss breakfast, so got up extra early to ensure we got as much as possible! Went down for 7am and were literally the only people there...(first pick for croissants...YES!) We then shoved a few more layers on, met Mily and Rosie, and headed back to the Eiffel Tower/Palais de Tokyo area, to see an amazing food market. (more food... yum!)

WATCH THIS...

The area was beautiful, with thin, tall extravagant buildings, with the market being in the central cobbled square. It was snowing heavily by this point, so we dived into the market with our cameras at the ready to take pictures of the amazing food, shame we couldn't capture the smells!

After a quick chocolat chaud in a tiny cafe up the road, we headed to the FONDATION PIERRE BERGE- YVES SAINT LAUREN. Here, for just 3euros, was an amazing collection of Indian costumes.

"Sixty models and accessories illustrate a period in which pomp became the official court language: silver, gold, silk, brocade, embroideries, a profusion of colours and precious materials all testify to the unbridled magnificence of the costumes of the era."

It was a shame we couldn't take any photographs of the garments, but i managed to collect thisleaflet which illustrates the strong use of colour within the work that i saw. If you manage to go to Paris soon, this is definitely worth a see.
Again, the gift shop was amazing, and for 7euros a bought a black and white broadsheet-sized magazine in homage to YSL himself. The imagery within it is amazing, along with sketches and text about various collections. I also bought a number of postcards (obsessed with postcards) which I will include as part of a collage of what i collected at the end of my travel blog.

Carrying on to the next museum, we then headed to the MUSSEE DE BACCARAT, a gallery showcasing the monumental pieces designed by Baccarat, remarkable for their dimensions, and the particularly ambitious technical skills involved. Take a look... here are some quick sketches I did of a few of the most eye-catching details.

Loved this seat!

The red glass toilets were incredible!
We then went back to the Champs Elysees to have a wonder around the shops...

but by this point the snow was so thick we decided to have a wander along to another museum to keep warm, so me and Mily headed off to MUSSEE D'ORSAY. On the way, we had a few snaps in the JARDIN DE TUILERIES, which was so beautiful as it was covered in snow, and had a great view of le LOUVRE (going there tomorrow!)

kids playing football in the freezing snow...mad!

Being a student under the age of 26 is AMAZING as yet again we got in free to the Mussee d'Orsay to see some amazing pieces of art. Here are a few of my favourites...

Gotta LOVE the GOLD.

After a good few hours we decided it was time to head home for a good nights sleep, so got back on the metro and headed home, and had a sneaky McDonalds on the way! (can't go wrong with a McDonalds!)
